Conference in Beirut on media coverage of elections
2012 has been the year of elections in numerous countries, and notably in the Arab world. In this particular international context, the SKeyes Centre for media and cultural freedom in Lebanon (The Samir Kassir Foundation) organises a conference in Beirut on 13th,14th and 15th July 2012 on the theme of: «Media coverage of elections: new challenges, new trends».
Over three days, around thirty international experts will be gathered together to discuss big issues of media processing of the elections. CFI is a partner of this conference and, in order to host a round table dedicated to the media coverage of the 2012 French elections, sends several speakers: Pierre Haski (Rue 89), Philippe Dessaint (TV5), Patrick Jarreau (Le Monde) and Léa Salamé (I-télé).
Offering a broad panorama of experiences within electoral coverage in France, the United States and in the Arab world, this conference will highlight the different techniques used by the media to cover electoral campaigns, the constraints which the latter have had to face, and the view and analysis of international journalists.
The citizen journalism initiatives, the relationships between media and civil society around elections and the role of the political players faced with new media will also make up part of the themes tackled. Working workshops between professionals will conclude the event.
