All general television channels establish their reputation and legitimacy on the basis of daily news programmes. The very nature of such programmes places the news editors and producers in a strategic position in relation to the public authorities, shareholders and the general public. Training journalists is essential in advancing pluralism and democratic practices.
CFI is additionally present in these countries so as to ensure professional development, diversification and organisation of these teams.

International information and the French approach : interview with Folly Bah Thibault, journalist for France 24
On 16 September 2009 in Nairobi, CFI organised a seminar on “International information, the French approach” with France 24 for 20 or so chief editors from private and state TV channels in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Burundi. Folly Bah Thibault, presenter of The Week in Africa on France 24 contributed to the seminar. We asked her about the specifics of this French news channel.
