DoKu: six Iraqi directors in Paris
Ali, San, Awat, Tavga, Hakar and Heshu are the six Iraqi directors who in 2011 embarked on the DoKu adventure, initiated by the association Alterdoc and supported by CFI. CFI invited them to Paris from 30 January to 6 February 2012, so they could showcase their films.
Launched in 2007, the DoKu workshop was attended by Iraqi film-makers of various origins to foster the production and broadcasting of documentaries in their homeland.
Some 40 short documentaries have been directed in the north of Iraq and in Baghdad since 2008. Working outside the media they usually work for, the directors enjoyed a free rein to raise social and economic issues in Iraq in their films.
To wrap up this fifth DoKu session, six Iraqi film-makers came to Paris for work sessions led by French professionals: directors, journalists and editors. At the end of the workshop, they will present their films at a screening on 6 February at CFI.
